In its pursuit to better pattern the activities of urban life, DP ARCHITECTURE has for 45 years explored architectural and planning techniques that inject new vitality into the city fabric. Many of the firm's recent works are among the largest of their type in the world, developing or redeveloping enormous urban sites. The Dubai Mall, for instance, encloses 550,000 square metres and in 2010 hosted nearly 50 million visitors. The firm's first projects in the 1970s helped introduce Singapore to post-war modernism, and projects in the decades since have transformed the nation's skyline and civic core, redefined the face of it's most celebrated shopping street, conserved some of its most legible historical monuments, planned campuses for many of its growing universities and developed its new National Stadium. This monograph exhibits a collection of large-scale public projects in addition to chapters focusing on urban retail shopping centres, hotels, workplaces, high-density residential complexes and academic institutions. The featured works provide insight into the firm's broad expertise in designing for architectural type, accommodating regional requirements, and providing solutions for programmes of unprecedented scale and scope.
